I graduated from Harvard College, magna cum laude, majoring in history, specializing in East Asian History. I received a PhD in History, specializing in Medieval European History. I also had a lengthy career as rare book cataloger, especially at the John Carter Brown Library

All periods of European and World History I have taught courses in Early and Late Medieval European History, Renaissance History, History of the Reformation, 17-18th century European intellectual history, 19th century European History, History of the book from 300 A.D. to 1600
