About This Department

Studying a language opens doors to new ways of seeing the world, as well as to the history, art, literature, and culture of a region. It also shows students how language communities encode meaning and transmit culture. In today’s increasingly interconnected world, a background in languages can give students a competitive edge in their career.

Our department offers programs in Chinese, French, Italian, and Spanish. Classes are conducted in the target language. We also host a language lab, which provides supplemental instruction and teacher- and student-guided instructional materials.

Language proficiency is fundamental for employment in a range of fields, including in International Business, and it provides opportunities in graduate study. Our curriculum and dedicated faculty ready students to lead in these opportunities, preparing them with the skills of impact makers and global leaders.
