Yun Xiao is Professor of Chinese language and linguistics at Bryant University and served as the chair of the Department of Modern Languages (2007-2014, 2019-present). She received her Ph.D. in Linguistics from University of Hawaii in 1998. Her research interests are Second Language Acquisition, Heritage Language Learning, Chinese Linguistics, and Chinese Language Education. She has published dozens of journal articles and book chapters. She also published a four-volume Readings in Chinese Literature Series (2008-2010, Boston: Cheng & Tsui Publishing Company.) and four co-edited/authored research volumes: Chinese as a Heritage Language: Fostering Rooted World Citizenry (2008, HI: University of Hawaii, National Foreign Language Resource Center), Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language: Theories and Applications (2011, 2nd edition, Boston: Cheng & Tsui Publishing Company), Current Issues in Chinese Linguistics (2011, UK, Cambridge: Cambridge Scholars Publishing), and Current Studies in Chinese Language and Discourse (2019, John Benjamins Publishing Company). Before she came to Bryant University, she served on faculty at the Department of Asian Languages and Literatures in University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
